Nepali Congress Captures Mayor and Deputy Mayor Seats in Tarakeshwor

The Nepali Congress (NC) emerged victorious in the May 13 local level elections, claiming both the mayor and deputy mayor positions in Tarakeshwor municipality, Kathmandu district. After a tense morning of vote counting, the final results confirmed Krishna Hari Maharjan as the new mayor, securing 11,223 votes against his closest competitor, Rameshwor Bohara of the CPN (UML), who garnered 7,359 votes.

The race for mayor wasn’t a two-horse battle. The CPN (Unified Socialist) candidate also made a significant mark, capturing 2,206 votes.

In the deputy mayoral race, Sirjana Burlakoti of the NC triumphed with 10,224 votes, leaving behind her rivals from the UML and CPN (Maoist Center) who received 7,563 and 2,694 votes respectively.

While turnout was substantial, with 26,702 eligible voters in the 11-ward municipality, over 2,400 ballots for the mayor and 2,900 for the deputy mayor were deemed invalid.

This victory marks a significant win for the Nepali Congress in Tarakeshwor, solidifying their hold on local leadership and setting the stage for their campaign promises to be put into action.
